XENOS
Xenos is the central theme that weaves through this exhibition. The title of the exhibition is a Greek word that translates in English as ‘stranger’, but its sense extends far beyond this simple definition. Xenos expresses the otherness, being a foreigner, the deviation from normalcy- however one might define normalcy, diverging from the usual. Within this exhibition, the diverse manifestations that foreignness can assume in our lives are unraveled. Here, the narratives of seven Berlin-based Greek artists and a London-based Greek artist, as immigrants themselves, navigate the complexities of this phenomenon.
The artworks are part of thought-provoking expressions of foreignness—be it the challenges of immigration, the complexities of the human body, the delicate dance of identity, or the subtle yet impactful moments of social alienation. These artists don't merely delve into the origins of the word "foreign"; they unravel it, disrupting the ordinary and shedding light on the beauty of otherness.
Xenos isn't just an exhibition; it's an introspective journey that prompts you to reflect on your own experiences. Join us as we collectively explore the threads that connect us to the broader canvas of society. Embrace the gravity of these themes with us, as we celebrate the richness and diversity found within the universal tapestry of foreignness. Your presence adds another layer to this vibrant exploration of what it means to be an individual within the complex web of modern life.
